With mountainous dew, tropical terrain and the overall perfect conditions for coffee farmers, Burundi is a known destination for sourcing Arabica coffee beans. Coffee farming does not have an extraordinarily long history here, as with the other Lake region coffees of East Africa, but it has an important one. We bring you all you need to know with our Burundi Brew blog.
Burundi is a small, central African nation where coffee props up the agrarian-based economy. The world of coffee culture and baristas are an alien concept to most of the farmers here, but the people understand the global importance of coffee, accounting for 80% of their export revenue. Burundi is slowly becoming one of Africa’s leading coffee producers.
Arabica coffee was first introduced in the early 1930s by the Belgians and coffee trees have been growing in the country ever since. Arabica coffee must be grown at high altitudes and here the farmers often tend to their crop with their livelihoods dependent on a good harvest.
Coffee Planet Burundi Origin is cultivated at altitudes of 1930m above sea level and of the Bourbon variety. We source 100% Arabica, specialty coffee beans from Burundi and roast them locally in Dubai. With just over half (55%) of coffee grown in this region of the Arabica variety, it stands out amongst African coffees for its complex flavour profile.
Our Burundi Origin is most notably balanced and velvety, with a citric acidity and full body. This medium roast invites drinkers to indulge in notes of lemon and red roses with a taste of roasted almonds, hazelnuts and a brown sugar sweetness. So now that you have the product profile for our delicious and select Burundi Origin, why not try for yourselves and be whisked away on a tasty adventure.
